Bangkok: The Supreme Court has sentenced Seksan Sukphimai, popularly known as “Sek Loso,” to 2 years, 12 months, and 20 days in prison. This verdict comes as a result of charges related to fighting officers, drug use, and gun possession during a police raid on his residence in 2017. Following the court’s decision, he was transported to Min Buri Special Prison.
According to Thai News Agency, the Min Buri Criminal Court on Sihaburanukit Road delivered the Supreme Court’s verdict in the case, where the public prosecutor accused Mr. Sek Loso of resisting and obstructing officers, using drugs, and possessing a firearm and ammunition without proper authorization. The charges were filed under case number Black A.1662/2561, Red A.8288/2561.
Mr. Sek Loso was initially arrested on December 31, 2017, at his home following an arrest warrant issued by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Court. The warrant was based on allegations of discharging a firearm into the air without justification. During the arrest, Mr. Sek Loso resisted and threatened to use a gun if officers attempted to enter, prompting the police to deploy the Arintharat unit to subdue him.
The prosecutor detailed that Mr. Sek Loso possessed a registered automatic handgun with ammunition and obstructed officers in their duties using a firearm. Additionally, he was accused of using Category 1 narcotics. Although previously sentenced by the Criminal Court with a suspended prison term of 2 years, Mr. Sek Loso reportedly reoffended.
Initially, on October 25, 2018, the court found Mr. Sek Loso guilty of all charges, sentencing him to 1 year in prison under the Firearms Act, reduced to 6 months after confession; 1 year and 6 months for obstructing an officer; and 6 months for drug use, totaling 1 year and 18 months. An additional sentence of 1 year and 3 months was added for assaulting his wife’s friend, resulting in 2 years and 21 months without suspension. Despite claims of bipolar disorder, the court noted that Mr. Sek Loso was aware of his actions, negating his defense.
On May 7, 2020, the Court of Appeal revised the sentence for firearm possession belonging to another licensed individual and possession of ammunition without a license, resulting in a 3-month imprisonment after reductions. Combined with other sentences, the total imprisonment was set at 2 years and 18 months without probation. During the appeal, Mr. Sek Loso was temporarily released on a bail of 600,000 baht.
The Supreme Court’s final ruling amended the sentence to 2 years, 12 months, and 20 days in prison. Subsequently, Mr. Seksan was taken to Min Buri Special Prison to serve his term as per the court’s decision.
