Bangkok: "Sruang" insists he is not the one who deals with "Pheu Thai" to discuss switching ministries with "Bhumjaithai." Surawong Thienthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, has clarified his stance regarding the ongoing speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle, emphasizing that such matters are solely within the Prime Minister's jurisdiction.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong addressed rumors about internal discussions within the Pheu Thai Party, asserting that no such talks have transpired. He stressed that the authority to reshuffle the cabinet rests exclusively with the Prime Minister. Mr. Surawong highlighted that the premature emergence of such news could disrupt the functioning of current ministers, reiterating that any forthcoming changes should be expected at the Prime Minister's discretion.
When questioned about potential negotiations between the Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties, Mr. Surawong reiterated that he was not involved in any discussions. He speculated that such talks, if they occurred, would likely take place at the party leader level. Mr. Surawong also stated that he was unaware of any plans regarding the transfer of major ministries between the two parties.
In response to inquiries about whether the Interior Ministry should remain under Pheu Thai's control, Mr. Surawong humorously deflected by stating that the decision ultimately lies with the Prime Minister. He emphasized the importance of discussions and the avoidance of conflicts in such matters.
Regarding the possibility of a special meeting of Pheu Thai MPs this week, Mr. Surawong confirmed that no such meeting is scheduled to occur.
