Tunis:Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, addressed rumors about a project to purchase 500 electric rice harvesters, clarifying that they do not cost 16 million baht each. He emphasized that the budget is being used directly to assist farmers and reduce costs.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya explained that the cost misinterpretations arose from inaccurate calculations involving various budget allocations. He stressed that the project must undergo committee review, focusing on the benefits to farmers.
He further stated that current combine harvesters have an average lifespan of about 14 years, and converting them to an electric system could significantly reduce energy costs over time. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives prioritizes projects with cost-effectiveness in mind, ensuring that the budget figures are accurately interpreted and not misrepresented.
Mr. Suriya highlighted that the proposal to procure 500 electric rice harvesters must still pass through the review process of relevant committees. Comprehensive consideration of the project's suitability and the necessity of its use is essential, focusing on benefits to farmers beyond just budget figures.
He also mentioned the importance of feasibility studies and compliance with regulations to ensure the budget is used effectively, avoiding long-term burdens on the government or farmers. The ministry aims to prioritize the needs of farmers, reduce production costs, and enhance the competitiveness of the Thai agricultural sector.
