Songkhla:Police have detained the suspect in the fatal shooting of a military police officer in front of a popular entertainment venue in Songkhla province, and bail has been denied.
According to Thai News Agency, investigators from the Songkhla City Police Station escorted the suspect, 20-year-old Pariwat, also known as Yuve, to the Songkhla Provincial Court to request a first remand order. Upon leaving the detention room, his father rushed to embrace him, offering comfort as Pariwat maintained a calm demeanor.
Pariwat is accused of shooting Sergeant Sulaiman Bin Awa, a 26-year-old soldier from the 42nd Military District Command, during an attempt to intervene in a brawl between groups of teenagers near Chala Tat Beach in Songkhla city on October 25th. Due to the severity of the crime, bail was opposed by the investigating officer.
The suspect's father stated that they did not initially request bail and preferred to follow the legal process. He acknowledged his son's stress due to his youth and urged him to be patient. Pariwat has expressed a desire to apologize to the victim's family, insisting he had no malicious intent.
During questioning, Pariwat confessed to the crime, claiming self-defense after being physically assaulted by the deceased. He admitted to discarding the weapon near the crime scene and fleeing. Investigations found no prior personal conflict between Pariwat and the victim, though there was a dispute with another group of teenagers. Police are continuing to investigate, seeking additional evidence and the source of the firearms, and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify others involved in the brawl. Charges will be filed based on the relevant evidence.
Authorities initially charged Pariwat with murder, possession of firearms and ammunition without a license, carrying a firearm in a public area without a permit, and firing a firearm without cause in a crowded area.
