Bangkok:Rome: The House Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights has summoned Suchada Sangtansap and her husband to testify on October 7, amid suspicions of involvement in online gambling and money laundering activities.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP from the People's Party and chairman of the House Committee, has called for this meeting. The session aims to discuss proactive legal policies and oversee the enforcement of laws related to bribery in the crackdown on online gambling sites, as well as measures to counter money laundering and regulate digital asset businesses.
Ten individuals have been invited to testify, including Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaiyanok Chidchob, and several high-ranking officials from various Thai law enforcement and regulatory agencies. Notably, Ms. Suchada Sangtansap, an MP for Chaiyaphum from the Bhumjaithai Party, and her Chinese-Australian husband, Mr. Taiyang Sang, have been called to provide clarifications.
Reporters indicate that this investigation by the House Committee on Legal Affairs has been ongoing, with more than six prior sessions involving relevant parties to gather information. The decision to summon Ms. Suchada and Mr. Taiyang follows a parliamentary session on October 1, during which Mr. Rangsiman suggested Mr. Taiyang's involvement in transnational crime. This was part of a general questioning session with Mr. Chaiyanok concerning the 40 million baht bribery case and efforts to tackle online gambling. Subsequent online investigations into the couple's asset and liability statements have further fueled concerns of possible money laundering activities.
