Thai Tourism Sees Surge as 30,000 Chinese Tourists Arrive Daily, Raising Hopes for 7 Million Visitors in 2026

Bangkok: The Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) has reported a significant increase in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand, with daily arrivals reaching 30,000. This development is seen as a positive indication for the country's tourism sector, which aims to attract 7 million Chinese tourists by the end of 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Adit Chairattananon, Secretary-General of ATTA, highlighted that during the recent Chinese New Year festival from February 13-22, 2026, the influx of Chinese tourists surged, averaging 28,000 visitors per day. This number recently peaked at 30,000 daily visitors, a substantial rise from the usual average of 13,000. The association hopes to maintain a daily visitor count of 16,000-20,000 throughout February, anticipating sustained growth through upcoming holidays such as Songkran.

In 2025, Thailand received 4.4 million Chinese tourists, falling short of expectations due to various challenges. However, the current upward trend suggests the potential to achieve the projected target for this year. Presently, no new adverse factors affecting tourist confidence have surfaced. Though there are reports of the Nipah virus in India, it poses no identified risk to Thailand. Nonetheless, vigilant monitoring of the epidemic situation remains crucial due to the sensitivity of Chinese tourists to health concerns.

Additionally, the private sector has urged the new government to focus on four priority areas: pandemic control, crime security, the value of the Thai baht, and managing border conflict risks. Meanwhile, Thailand is gearing up to host several groups of MICE and incentive tourists in 2026, including a significant contingent from Amway, which will bring over 13,000 travelers in March-April. This is expected to further boost tourism revenue throughout the year.
