Bangkok:Thailand conducted a full-dress rehearsal for the Royal Barge Procession on the Chao Phraya River in preparation for the Royal Kathin robe-offering ceremony scheduled for November 6.
According to Thai News Agency, during the official procession on November 6, His Majesty the King will travel by royal barge to present Kathin robes at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan, also known as the Temple of Dawn. The event will also commemorate the 48th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Suthida, which was on June 3.
The rehearsal included a fleet of 52 traditional barges spanning 1.28 kilometers, manned by over 2,200 oarsmen in ceremonial attire. The procession moved from Wasukri Pier to Wat Arun, accompanied by traditional barge-chanting.
The fleet featured four major royal barges Suphannahong, Narai Song Suban, Anantanakkharat, and Anekkachatphutchong. Each barge was adorned with tiered umbrellas, pavilion curtains, and floral decorations. Notably, the Royal Barge Suphannahong displayed its signature tassel, highlighting its recognition by the World Ship Trust's Maritime Heritage Award in 1992.
