Thailand Focuses on People-Centric Development at International Meeting

Bangkok:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanpraphas, emphasized the importance of people-centered development during the 114th meeting of the Development Committee, held at the IMF and World Bank Group 2026 annual meetings in Bangkok. He advocated for private sector investment to create jobs and opportunities for all citizens.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nitithanpraphas, representing the Southeast Asian voting group, highlighted that development financing should focus on creating quality jobs, improving living standards, and providing opportunities for local people and businesses to benefit from economic growth, rather than simply increasing investment amounts.

Thailand is committed to applying the World Bank Group's knowledge to implement effective policies, particularly aiming to support middle-income countries in enhancing their economic potential. The country also stresses the importance of transparency and accountability in development projects.

Mr. Nitithanpraphas further stated that sustainable development should empower people and strengthen the economy, ensuring that funding and international cooperation lead to better opportunities for everyone.
