Bangkok:Thailand has made history by hosting the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings, where Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanpraphas, issued the 'Bangkok Dialogue Notes.' This compilation of insights reflects Thailand's role as a 'Trusted Connector' in the global arena.
According to Thai News Agency, the meetings, held from October 12-18, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, attracted over 19,000 participants, marking the highest attendance in the event's history. Thailand was praised for its exemplary hosting and management by the IMF, the World Bank Group, and international delegates.
The Bangkok Dialogue Notes, while not a formal agreement, encapsulate ideas from discussions involving policymakers and international financial institutions. These discussions addressed major global economic risks, such as geopolitical conflicts, the AI-driven technological transition, energy price volatility, and climate change challenges. Thailand's proposed strategies included targeted assistance for vulnerable groups and fiscal consolidation, contributing to a favorable economic outlook and lower government bond yields compared to the US.
Thailand is also focusing on integrating SMEs into advanced technology supply chains, enhancing trade agreements within ASEAN, and expanding cooperation with the EU. Efforts are being made to foster cross-border collaboration in clean energy, food security, and digital security.
Looking forward, Thailand plans to invest in human capital, digital infrastructure, and energy to maintain global confidence. A Thai delegation will participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos next year to continue highlighting Thailand's global role.
