Thailand’s OECD Membership Unaffected by Cheating Scandal: Prime Minister

Bangkok: Authorities affirm that the local government exam cheating scandal will not affect Thailand's participation in the OECD. The Prime Minister confirmed that the corruption scandal in local government examinations will not affect Thailand's membership in the OECD.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the issue following a meeting with executives and members of the European Union-ASEAN Business Council and the European Association for Business and Commerce. During the discussion, the topic of Thailand's membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was brought up. The Prime Minister reassured that the corruption scandal in the local government examination would not impact Thailand's OECD membership. He acknowledged that while cheating cannot be completely prevented, there are legal systems designed to address such issues. He also mentioned the ongoing process involving the removal of over 5,000 individuals with irregular scores, with results pending from the central committee.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters on Chaeng Wattana Road. There, he inspected a combined honor guard from the three branches of the armed forces before receiving a detailed briefing on the roles, responsibilities, and key operations of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. The briefing included discussions on preparing the armed forces, defending the Kingdom, and effectively utilizing military power within the Ministry of Defence's authority. Additionally, it covered the support of the government's security policies, particularly focusing on border security integration to prevent and resolve illegal activities along Thailand's borders, including land, inland waters, and territorial waters.
