Thanathorn Launches 2026 Campaign with Parade in Chiang Mai, Eyes Government Formation

Bangkok: Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, a campaign assistant for the People’s Party, launched his campaign for the 2026 election in Chiang Mai, marking the beginning of his 69th campaign year. The event featured a vibrant parade and an engaging speech aimed at rallying support for the People’s Party and its candidates on the first day of the election cycle, scheduled for February 8.

According to Thai News Agency, Thanathorn began his campaign by riding in a parade float, greeting the public from Chiang Mai International Airport along Chang Moi Road. He was accompanied by Ms. Petcharat Maichomphu, the People’s Party’s candidate for Constituency 1, and continued his efforts by walking through local markets. Throughout the day, he was joined by Ms. Karnik Chantada, the candidate for Constituency 2, and Mr. Nattapol Tovichakchaikul, the candidate for Constituency 3. The campaign atmosphere was lively and well-received as Thanathorn extended New Year wishes to the public and engaged with voters.

Thanathorn remarked that the current campaign has garnered more positive feedback than previous efforts, attributing this to the public’s understanding of the party’s policies and recognition of its work as an opposition party. He highlighted the Clean Air Act as a significant achievement, particularly for residents in the North, and noted the impact of the Lamphun Provincial Administrative Organization elections on voter confidence.

In the evening, Thanathorn, alongside Mr. Worawit Phuphisit, President of the Lamphun Provincial Administrative Organization, campaigned in Constituency 9 of Chom Thong District. This area sees Mr. Chatthanapat Somsakketukorn of the People’s Party competing against Bhumjaithai Party’s Ms. Srinual Boonlue.

Thanathorn urged voters to consider the People’s Party, emphasizing that other parties have previously governed without resolving persistent issues. He appealed for a chance to lead and promised significant change within four years. “Give the People’s Party a chance to form a government. Let us govern, let us show you that we can solve problems, we can create change. Give us just four years. If we don’t do well, you don’t have to vote for us next time. But if we do well, we’ll ask for two terms,” he concluded.
