He then walked through security without permission, verbally abused immigration police officers with vulgar language, and attempted to assault them. Initial estimates put the damage at over 480,000 baht. Police are pursuing legal action against the suspect.
According to Thai News Agency, Police Lieutenant Saranwit Kaewkhot, an immigration officer at Suvarnabhumi Airport, filed a complaint with Police Major Sittipong Panthaisong, the investigating officer at Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station. He stated that while on duty at the automated passport control point in the departure area, Zone 2, a Chinese man, Mr. Zheng Liwei, a passenger on Spring Airlines, vandalized the automated passport control machine before bypassing the checkpoint without permission. Following the incident, the man verbally abused the police officer with vulgar language in Chinese and attempted to assault him while he was performing his duty. His wife intervened and restrained him. The police officers believe the man's actions constitute offenses including insulting an officer while performing their duty and damaging government property. Therefore, they filed a complaint to pursue legal action to the fullest extent.
The investigation revealed that the destroyed automated passport control machine was severely damaged, with an initial estimated damage cost of approximately 481,500 baht, excluding VAT. Officials have gathered evidence and are proceeding with legal action.
