Nakhon Ratchasima: A menu to fight the cold is making waves as locals and visitors alike are invited to taste ‘Pla Jum Khru Buri’-a dish made from fresh local fish while enjoying the scenic views of the rice fields in Khru Buri District, Korat.
According to Thai News Agency, the unique culinary experience is offered at “Long Thung Phung Kang Cafe,” a quaint shop located at the end of Don Santi Village, Ban Mai Subdistrict, Khong Buri District. The cafe, owned by Ms. Duangporn Kosinchai, also known as “Som O,” 43, has been transformed from a house by the rice field into a food and beverage outlet. It focuses on local seasonal menus and dishes featuring various types of locally sourced fish. The proximity to two major dams upstream of the Mun River, the Mun Bon Dam and Lam Chae Dam, ensures a fresh supply of ingredients that contribute to the tastiness of the food.
Ms. Duangporn, or Som-O, shared that the Pla Jum menu has become quite popular during the winter season. The dish is served hot, providing warmth and comfort in the chilly weather. The Pla Jum features fresh Nile Tilapia and Red Tilapia sourced from the dams, cooked in a flavorful soup simmered from fish bones. It is accompanied by two types of dipping sauces: a seafood variety and a special recipe crafted by the restaurant, allowing customers to tailor their dining experience to their taste preferences.
Moreover, the cafe offers a variety of local fish such as catfish, snakehead fish, and tilapia. The menu also includes home-style dishes made from unique ingredients like red ant eggs, wild sweet vegetables, and field mice. By purchasing raw materials from villagers, the cafe helps generate income for the local community.
