U.S. Blacklists Chinese Tech Giants, China Responds with Displeasure

Beijing: China is displeased after the US Department of Defense blacklisted leading technology companies. China's Commerce Ministry said on Saturday that the Chinese government strongly disapproves of the U.S. Department of Defense's decision to add several large Chinese private companies to its list of companies that support the Chinese military.

According to Thai News Agency, the updated list includes leading technology companies such as e-commerce giant Alibaba, internet search engine Baidu, major electric vehicle manufacturers BYD and Neo, as well as Trina Solar and JA Solar Technology, the world's largest solar panel manufacturers. This move reflects Washington's security concerns amid escalating geopolitical competition. The measure, which will take effect under U.S. law from 2027 onwards, will prohibit U.S. Department of Defense agencies from directly contracting with or purchasing goods and services from listed companies through third parties.

China's Ministry of Commerce stated that the Pentagon's measures disregarded the consensus reached between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping, who met last month to maintain peace in the trade war. The Chinese government has urged the United States to cease such erroneous actions and immediately withdraw the measures to restore stable strategic relations between China and the U.S. It also warned that if Chinese businesses are not protected and treated fairly, Beijing will be compelled to take decisive and strong retaliatory measures.
