Unstable Weather Conditions Forecasted for Upper Thailand with Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for residents in the upper part of Thailand as unstable weather conditions are expected from February 23 to 25, 2025. This period will witness thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hail particularly in the North and Northeast regions, along with a drop in temperature.

According to Thai News Agency, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that southern and southeasterly winds will carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, leading to thunderstorms in certain areas. The public is urged to take precautions against the changing weather and potential thunderstorm hazards. Farmers, in particular, are advised to protect their crops from possible damage.

The northeast monsoon and easterly winds affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea are reported to be moderate, resulting in some thunderstorms in the South. Wave heights in the lower Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach 1-2 meters, rising above 2 me
ters in thunderstorm-prone areas. Mariners are cautioned to navigate carefully and avoid these regions.

Furthermore, from February 23 to 25, 2025, a moderate to strong high-pressure area from China will influence the weather, causing southern and southeastern winds to bring moisture to the upper part of Thailand. Westerly wind waves from Myanmar will also pass over the North and Northeast, exacerbating the unstable weather, which includes thunderstorms, gusty winds, hail, and decreasing temperatures. The South will experience increased rainfall, with some areas facing heavy to very heavy rain. Wave heights in the lower Gulf of Thailand are expected to be 2-3 meters, increasing to over 3 meters during thunderstorms.

Dust accumulation is another concern during this period, with moderate to high levels expected in the northern and upper central regions.

The regional weather forecast for February 20, 2025, outlines varying conditions across different parts of Thailand. Bangkok and surrounding areas are predict
ed to have thunderstorms affecting 10% of the region, with temperatures ranging from 23-36 degrees Celsius. Northern regions will experience cool mornings with daytime heat and thunderstorms in 10% of the area, especially in Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces. The Northeast will have cool mornings and thunderstorms affecting 10% of the area, mainly in Loei, Chaiyaphum, and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces.

The Central region is expected to be hot with thunderstorms and strong winds in 10% of the area, while the Eastern region will see thunderstorms in 10% of the area, particularly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, and other provinces. The Southern region (East Coast) will have thunderstorms in 30% of the area, with varying wind speeds and wave heights, while the Southern region (West Coast) will experience thunderstorms in 20% of the area with similar maritime conditions.
