Phuket:Two U.S. Navy warships, carrying approximately 5,000 personnel, have arrived in Phuket, prompting a significant security operation involving over 5,100 police, military, and port authorities to ensure a safe and organized visit.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at Phuket Deep Sea Port in the Wichit Subdistrict of Mueang Phuket District is tense as various agencies have mobilized their officials to prepare for the visit, scheduled between October 4-9, 2026. The operation includes comprehensive security checks and coordination efforts led by Mr. Adul Ralukmoon, Phuket Port Authority Director, alongside Pol. Col. Somsak Thongkliang, Superintendent of Wichit Police Station.
Uniformed and plainclothes police, military personnel, and sniffer dogs have been deployed to patrol the area, while U.S. Navy officers are also inspecting the site. A command post and tents have been established to facilitate operations and services for the personnel disembarking from the ships.
The ships involved are the USS GEORGE HW BUSH (CVN-77), a large aircraft carrier with approximately 4,820 personnel, and the USS DELBERT D. BLACK (DDG-119), a destroyer with about 289 personnel. The USS GEORGE HW BUSH is anchored roughly 3.3 kilometers from the harbor's deep water berth.
Fourteen transport vessels will ferry the personnel from the warships to the shore, with the Phuket Port Authority coordinating navigation and maritime security. On land, police and security agencies are managing the area to ensure orderly and secure operations.
During their visit, U.S. personnel will disembark in stages to enjoy rest and tourism in Phuket Province. Authorities have put in place extensive measures for security, traffic management, and facilitation to ensure a smooth and positive experience for the visiting personnel.
