Uten Thawai Students Demand Resolution from Ministry of Higher Education

Accra:Students from Uten Technical College took their concerns to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, insisting on a peaceful protest to have their demands heard.

According to Thai News Agency, over 100 students from the Uten Thawai Campus of Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern gathered outside the ministry to oppose the relocation of their campus. The students demanded the ministry respond to their concerns within three days. Ministry officials, including Dr. Sriyada Palimapan, Advisor to the Minister, and Professor Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of MHESI, met with the student leaders to engage in dialogue. Despite the offer to send representatives for negotiations, the students insisted that all attendees meet with the Minister.

During the meeting, Mr. Kristhitach Nanvaranan, a doctoral student leading the student delegation, voiced concerns about the 90-day relocation notice, highlighting its impact on students' academic and mental well-being. The students proposed that any relocation should be completed with new facilities ready before proceeding, to avoid disruptions to their education. They suggested a delay in the relocation process to ensure a thorough solution is reached, requiring a clear response from the ministry within the stipulated timeframe.

Professor Dr. Supachai reiterated the ministry's support for student education and commitment to resolving the issue without conflict. Both parties agreed to continue discussions, with the Permanent Secretary promising to consider the students' proposals with the Minister and act expediently. Dr. Sriyada emphasized the importance of cooperation from all sides to navigate this challenging period without animosity. After the meeting, student representatives thanked the ministry for listening and requested permission to use the facilities before leaving.
