Prachinburi:Villagers in Prachinburi province recently rescued a giant carp weighing over 60 kg from near-death conditions caused by flooding and polluted water. The carp was found weak and exhausted due to low oxygen levels in the water.
According to Thai News Agency, the villagers encountered the struggling carp in a forest area near the road leading to Ban Phayawang village in the Ban Kham subdistrict of Sri Maha Pho district, about 100 meters from the Prachinburi River. They worked with a pickup truck driver who provided oxygen tanks to revive the fish. After nearly three hours of effort, the carp began to show signs of recovery, and they relocated it to a relative's fish pond.
The carp, which measured 122 centimeters in length and approximately 30 centimeters wide, was first discovered by Ms. Wanna Narutai, a local resident. She initially mistook the noise of the fish thrashing for a snake but soon realized it was a large carp and sought assistance to move it to safety.
Additionally, villagers reported seeing other aquatic animals, including shrimp and freshwater fish, floating with their heads above water in the Prachinburi River, suggesting they too were affected by the low oxygen levels. The water had a foul odor, prompting concerns about its quality. Residents are urging authorities to investigate and address the issue to prevent further harm to aquatic life and assure those living along the river.
