Meanwhile, Wat Phai Lueang has also initiated a project to plant “Israeli sweet grass” to be used as a food source for cows and buffaloes within the temple grounds. Monks and temple disciples will participate in planting and caring for the grass after their morning and evening prayers. In addition to creating a sustainable animal food source and reducing the temple’s expenses, it is also considered an activity that promotes physical health through exercise and instills a sense of compassion towards all living beings.
The monks at the temple incorporated the teachings of “loving-kindness and compassion” into their instruction for the monks and participants, emphasizing that caring for all living beings is like cultivating a compassionate and generous mind, valuing all life on earth. This is considered a practical application of Buddhist principles in daily life. Therefore, the project not only helps save animals from being killed but also creates a model of harmonious coexistence between humans, animals, and nature, in accordance with Buddhist teachings.
