Winyat Confirms Thaksin’s Second Pardon Request Submission

Bangkok: Attorney Winyat has confirmed that Thaksin Shinawatra has submitted a second request for a royal pardon. Meanwhile, Thaksin’s daughter, Pinthongtha Shinawatra Kunakornwong, and her husband, Natthaphong Kunakornwong, visited him at Klong Prem Central Prison, accompanied by lawyer Winyat Chatmontri. Despite the presence of Red Shirts showing their support, Pinthongtha chose not to respond to reporters’ inquiries about the pardon request, offering only a smile before leaving the prison without commenting to the media.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Winyat acknowledged submitting the second pardon request, emphasizing that it is a right afforded to every inmate. He noted that the process is under royal discretion and cannot be interfered with. This recent request took approximately 14 days to complete, in contrast to the prior request which took six days, indicating that this process was not expedited. The Ministry of Justice stated that Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, former Minister of Justice, has approved the request and followed the appropriate submission protocols.
