Yotchanan Orders Governors to Enforce Strict Single Command for Flood Prevention in Northern Provinces

Bangkok: Prime Minister Yotchanan has issued an urgent directive to the governors of 17 northern provinces, mandating the strict enforcement of the Single Command system. This initiative requires the preparation of personnel and equipment, as well as readiness to evacuate vulnerable populations, with officials to be on standby 24 hours a day to assist the public.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Yotsanun Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, in his role as Chairman of the Committee on Flood and Drought Prevention and Mitigation in Northern Thailand, issued an urgent order, No. MT 0608/W 14601. This directive calls for a unified and effective approach to flood prevention and mitigation, following a committee meeting on August 20th at the Nan Provincial Administrative Organization. The aim is to provide timely assistance and minimize loss of life and property. The directive outlines six main measures for implementation, including the establishment of a Single Command Management system to ensure cohesive direction, command, and communication.

The governors are instructed to prepare tools, water pumps, boats, and rescue vehicles for immediate disaster response. Emphasis is placed on the safety and evacuation of vulnerable groups, including bedridden patients and the elderly. To prevent misinformation and public panic, the situation and social media will be closely monitored, with the Public Relations Department's channels utilized for awareness.

In the event of emergencies, immediate reporting to the Committee Chairman and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is required. If conditions worsen, a 24-hour support base will be established by provincial authorities, government agencies, military, police, and local organizations to provide continuous assistance until the situation stabilizes. The directive has been dispatched to the governors of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Lamphun, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani for immediate action.
