Udon Thani: Visiting the home of a young man who collected old things and returned a hundred thousand baht to its owner, a young collector from Udon Thani is being celebrated for his honesty. Grandma is proud that her grandson followed her teachings.

According to Thai News Agency, Namfon, a 28-year-old resident of Ban Sakon Phatthana in Nong Waeng Subdistrict, Udon Thani Province, lives in a dilapidated two-and-a-half-story house with his grandmother, Mrs. Sopha Roriaob, and his uncle, Mr. Chalong Roriaob, who suffers from mental illness. Despite their challenging living conditions, Namfon’s act of returning 100,000 baht to its rightful owner has earned him widespread praise, reaching even the Prime Minister, who has ordered efforts to find him a job.

Namfon, who collects recyclable waste daily on his bicycle with a sidecar, showed reporters the piles of waste he collects under the stairs of his home. Living without electricity, the family relies on a bamboo ladder for access to the second floor, where Namfon and his uncle reside. Grandma Sopha supports the family by working in agriculture, and she expressed immense pride in Namfon for adhering to her teachings about honesty and respect for others’ belongings.

Ms. U, the clerk at a rubber plantation, was overjoyed to recover the lost money and offered Namfon a job at the plantation. She plans to train him in handling rubber, with a minimum wage of 300 baht per day. Namfon is eager to take on the work, despite its difficulty.

Community leaders, including Mr. Watcharapol Khao Kham and Mrs. Thiapchutha Khao Kham from the Pheu Thai Party, have visited Namfon to offer support and financial assistance. Mrs. Thiapchutha also paid off the family’s overdue electricity bill as a reward for Namfon’s honesty.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra has taken a personal interest in Namfon’s situation, instructing local MPs and agencies to support the family’s living conditions and employment opportunities. The positive response from the community and government underscores the belief that integrity is valued and rewarded in society.
