According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with his wife, Mrs. Thanon Charnvirakul, departed from Don Mueang Air Base at 8:00 AM today for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The visit, scheduled from July 9-10, was at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aimed at further strengthening relations between the two countries. The delegation accompanying Anutin includes several prominent ministers such as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, and others.
This visit to Malaysia marks Mr. Anutin's second official visit to an ASEAN country, after Vietnam, since assuming his second term as Prime Minister. During this visit, the two leaders will hold a full delegation meeting to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, investment, and tourism, in order to improve the quality of life for the people. They will also discuss security in the southern border provinces of Thailand to find solutions and achieve peace, as well as coordinate cooperation in combating transnational crime, overcoming obstacles to trade, energy, and natural disasters.
In addition to the official visit, the two leaders will jointly preside over the opening ceremony of a new Thai-Malaysian border crossing and a road connecting the new Sadao Customs checkpoint in Sadao District, Songkhla Province, with the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint in Kedah State. This project, jointly promoted by both governments since 2019, aims to expand trade and exports from Thailand, connecting to Mae Sai and Mae Sot districts and southern China. It marks another crucial gateway for increased revenue and economic opportunities.
