Stock Exchange of Thailand Unveils New Criteria to Attract New Economy and Foreign Companies

Bangkok: The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has unlocked criteria to attract New Economy and foreign companies to list, effective September 11, 2026. The changes aim to facilitate easier and quicker capital raising for businesses within 10 targeted industry groups, as well as those promoted by the Board of Investment (BOI) and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

According to Thai News Agency, the SET has revised its listing criteria to align with the new economic context and international standards. This strategic move allows greater access for New Economy companies within sectors such as the medical and healthcare industry, modern automotive, and smart electronics, among others. Companies endorsed by the BOI and EEC, along with prominent foreign companies, will have enhanced opportunities to secure capital within the Thai market, while adhering to stringent quality, financial, and disclosure standards.

Mr. Assadej Kongsiri, Director and President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, emphasized the need for change, citing that the business structure of listed companies in the Thai capital market has remained largely unchanged over the past three decades. The rapid growth of New Economy industries demands accessible funding sources, and the revised criteria mark a pivotal shift in upgrading the Thai capital market. This aligns with SET's 3-year strategic plan (2026-2028) under the vision "The Trusted Gateway to Inclusive Opportunities." The new criteria are expected to expedite fundraising efforts for companies supported by the BOI and EEC, as well as leading international firms, while maintaining quality standards and offering Thai investors opportunities to grow with these future industries.

The revised criteria have been approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand and will take effect on September 11, 2026. Key updates include:

1. Revamping eligibility criteria for companies in 10 New Economy industry groups to enhance their attractiveness for fundraising and listing on SET. This involves establishing Special Track criteria for companies promoted by the BOI and EEC Policy Office.

2. Modifying IPO criteria for foreign companies already listed on other stock exchanges to allow for Secondary Listing criteria, ensuring trading volume and liquidity on the Thai Stock Exchange. Companies from Unrecognized Countries must meet the same qualifications as Thai companies, including quality, financial standing, performance, free float, and disclosure requirements.

3. Updating the Silent Period conditions for all listed companies to better align with international standards while ensuring strategic shareholders maintain a continuous shareholding period to build investor confidence.

Further details on the updated criteria are available on the Stock Exchange of Thailand website under the 'Rules/Regulations' section.
