Samut Prakan: A Burmese man, identified as Abdul, has been arrested for the murder of a 9-year-old boy in Phra Samut Chedi District. The tragic incident unfolded when the man, who sells roti, lured the boy with the intention of rape. However, when the boy resisted, Abdul strangled him and disposed of the body in a pond located in an abandoned village.
According to Thai News Agency, the police from Phra Samut Chedi Police Station, along with officers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation, discovered the boy’s body in a pond near Suk Sawat Road. The body was found face down, clad only in a shirt. The area, an empty lot covered with grass, was about 200 meters from the main road.
The boy’s disappearance was reported by his parents on the night of January 22. Subsequent investigations involved checking surveillance cameras around the boy’s house, which led the police to the suspect, Abdul. He was found in a nearby room and taken in for questioning, where he confessed to his heinous actions. Abdul initially claimed he had left the boy at the entrance of an alley, but under further interrogation, he admitted to the crime after being under the influence of alcohol.
The boy’s grandmother, devastated by the news, revealed that the family had trusted Abdul, who often interacted with the child, taking him to shops and giving him money. Despite the family’s trust, Abdul pretended to help search for the missing boy after the incident.
Authorities have charged Abdul with five offenses: intentional murder, abduction for indecent purposes, concealment of a corpse, illegal entry into the country, and narcotics use. A background check revealed his previous arrest for methamphetamine possession, leading to his deportation in December 2021. Abdul had re-entered Thailand illegally two months prior to this incident.
