Samut sakhon: Samut Sakhon's provincial fisheries office has partnered with private firm Sirisaeng-arumphee Co., Ltd. (SRSP) to buy blackchin tilapia nationwide at 10 baht per kilogram, officials said. Fisheries officials recently inspected the purchasing operations at the company's facility in Samut Sakhon to monitor the containment efforts.
According to Thai News Agency, eradicating the invasive blackchin tilapia is a key government policy. While Samut Sakhon is no longer designated a high-risk area, it remains under surveillance. Under the program, captured fish are processed into fishmeal for animal feed to reduce the species' population.
Preecha Sirisaeng-aramphee, executive chairman of Sirisaeng-aramphee Co., Ltd., the sole buyer in the province, stated that the company pays 10 baht per kilogram at the factory gate. The company initially targeted 1 million kilograms and has already purchased approximately 400,000 kilograms.
Sellers are required to present identification cards to record where the fish were caught for the government database.
