Bangkok: The Minister of Culture has instructed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture to prepare for the integration of the country's culture and tourism. The preparation involves studying the structure, laws, and personnel to support this integration, aiming for efficient operations and national development.According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sabida Thaiseth, Minister of Culture, emphasized the government's plan to transfer tourism responsibilities from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to the Ministry of Culture. The focus is on utilizing cultural capital, Thai identity, and creativity to generate economic value and enhance Thailand's image internationally. Ms. Sabida instructed Mr. Prasop Riangngern, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, to prepare in all aspects, prioritizing the country's and people's best interests.Mr. Prasop Riangngern stated that a meeting was held on June 10, 2026, with executives and relevant agencies, including the Office of the Civil Service Commission ( OCSC), to discuss guidelines for this mission. The focus was on aligning the Ministry of Culture's structure with the changing national and global context.The Permanent Secretary highlighted the opportunity to modernize the Ministry's management system, aligning it with its future mission. The Ministry of Culture has studied successful cultural and tourism management approaches in various countries to design a suitable structure for Thailand. Mr. Prasop noted that many countries have used culture and tourism to drive their economies, generate income, and enhance their national image.A joint meeting will soon be held between the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and other central agencies to consider details of the mission, structure, staffing, budget, and laws. The goal is to establish a management system linking Thailand's culture, tourism, and creative economy, generating economic value and enhancing Thailand's international role.
