Bangkok: Governor Chatchart Sittiphan has taken decisive measures following the crane collapse at Charoen Mueang intersection and road subsidence at Wongwian Yai roundabout, emphasizing public safety as the primary concern.
According to Thai News Agency, Governor Chatchart personally inspected the sites to ensure safety protocols were being implemented. The crane arm collapse occurred at a condominium construction project near Charoen Mueang intersection in the Pathum Wan district. The crane arm broke due to strong winds during a storm, causing it to hang precariously atop the building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.
Efforts to dismantle the crane are underway, with sections being carefully cut off and counterweights removed to prevent further risks. The contractor has been directed to work closely with the Expressway Authority of Thailand and other agencies to manage traffic closures during the demolition, ensuring public safety is maintained throughout the process.
Governor Chatchart also visited Wongwian Yai roundabout to assess the road subsidence situation. Although the area continues to be monitored for soil subsidence, no new cracks have been detected, and recent measurements indicate stability. The previous storm had minimal impact on the site, allowing work to continue as scheduled.
Water inflow into the affected tunnel has significantly decreased, enhancing site stability. Monitoring equipment, including cameras and tiltmeters, has been installed, confirming that the structural integrity remains within safe limits.
For residents impacted by the incidents, temporary accommodations have been arranged, with expenses covered by the contracting company. Despite these efforts, seven residents remain in the affected building, prompting authorities to ensure their safety and well-being are closely monitored.
