Ang thong: A rock embankment protecting the Chao Phraya River from erosion and flooding has collapsed, causing significant concern in the Ban Hae Subdistrict. The embankment, located behind Wat Chai Songkhram in Ang Thong Province, slid into the river across a stretch exceeding 300 meters and more than 4 meters deep.
According to Thai News Agency, the sudden collapse has led to the evacuation of tourists and the relocation of floating rafts from the affected area due to potential further collapses. The cause of the incident is believed to be fluctuations in the river's water level or a structural shift in the soil beneath the embankment. The embankment's age, being several decades old, may have also contributed to its instability. The Ban Hae Subdistrict Chief has inspected the site, cordoned off the hazardous area, and restricted public access due to concerns over unstable soil.
The Subdistrict Chief is working to coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Town Planning to expedite repairs. The urgency of the situation is underscored by the potential threat to nearby areas if the collapse is not addressed swiftly.
