In the Phitsanulok region, Ban Rong Kla experienced grass temperatures as low as -2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Bueng Kan’s cold snap, accompanied by strong winds, has disrupted local life and even sparked fires in homes.
According to Thai News Agency, the persistent cold weather is affecting various regions across Thailand. In Phitsanulok Province, tourists visiting the Sakura Tourism Village in Ban Rong Kla were greeted by frost-covered landscapes, including grass tops and car roofs. The phenomenon, witnessed for the third time this year, has been a draw for tourists who appreciate the natural beauty enhanced by the cold.
In Chiang Mai, residents have had to adapt to colder temperatures, with the city experiencing lows of 11 degrees Celsius. On Doi Inthanon, frost has appeared for the 17th time this winter, with temperatures dropping to 1 degree Celsius at Kiew Mae Pan and -1.8 degrees on the grass tops. The Northern Meteorological Center has noted that this is the coldest day of the winter, influenced by high-pressure air from China.
Loei Province is also experiencing a cold spell, with mountain temperatures ranging from 0-4 degrees Celsius. At Phu Ruea National Park, tourists have been braving the cold and strong winds to witness the sunrise, while in the plains, temperatures have dipped to 6-7 degrees Celsius. The cold has led to ice flake formation in areas like Ban Na Lan Khao, affecting daily routines.
In Bueng Kan Province, the cold weather, coupled with strong winds, has impacted villagers significantly. Residents have resorted to wearing multiple layers and making fires to stay warm. In Ban Nong Chan, a fire caused by an electrical short circuit, exacerbated by strong winds, led to damage to several homes.
The cold weather has also affected animal life. In Nakhon Ratchasima, a fighting cock farm owner has had to adjust care routines to protect nearly 400 chickens from the cold. Measures include postponing sunbathing and exercise times and covering the coop to shield against the wind.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the cold spell will continue until the end of January, with temperatures in the North and Northeast expected to drop further. Despite a brief warming period, another strong cold air mass is anticipated, ensuring that the winter chill persists across Thailand.
