Thonburi: A young man was injured when a communication cable snagged his neck, causing him to fall from his motorcycle and hit the ground. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of hanging cables in the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on June 24, 2026, in Soi Taksin 40, Daokhanong Subdistrict, Thonburi District. CCTV footage captured the moment when Mr. Rungyot, 36, was riding his motorcycle at a speed of 30-40 kilometers per hour and was unexpectedly caught by a sagging communication cable. The impact caused him to fall off his motorcycle, resulting in a fracture in the inner cervical vertebrae. Despite the severity of the incident, the communication company has yet to reach out to take responsibility, prompting Mr. Rungyot to pursue legal action.
The news team that visited the scene reported seeing communication cables still bundled together with various materials, including wire, fabric in the colors of the Thai flag, and duct tape. Some cables remained scattered and rolled up, posing potential hazards to commuters. CCTV footage from June 23 showed a technician performing maintenance in the area, and after the incident, two more technicians arrived to manage the cables.
Mr. Rungyot recounted his experience, emphasizing the danger posed by hanging cables in Bangkok. After the accident, he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his neck fracture, necessitating time off work for recovery. He expressed his determination to seek justice and warned the public to remain vigilant on the roads.
Local resident Uncle Pichet, who lives opposite the accident site, mentioned that the cables have been problematic for a year. Large vehicles frequently snag the cables, causing them to droop dangerously. Despite multiple reports to the telecommunications company, only minor repairs have been made, and the cables often come loose again.
Bukkhalo Police Station has received a report of the incident and is actively investigating to identify those responsible for the cable maintenance. The authorities aim to hold them accountable and ensure compensation for the injured parties.
