Bangkok:The Democrat Party is preparing to file a lawsuit with the Administrative Court against government agencies over their management of the flooding problem in Bangkok. The party aims to hold these agencies accountable for neglecting their responsibilities, which they claim has led to significant damage to the public.
According to Thai News Agency, the Democrat Party's spokesperson, Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, announced the party's intention to sue the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and other government agencies. The lawsuit is in response to what the party describes as negligence in handling the floods and failure to provide adequate compensation for the damages incurred.
Mr. Pongsakorn emphasized that the flooding in Bangkok was not purely due to natural causes or heavy rainfall, but rather due to poor government management. He cited issues such as inadequate water drainage, malfunctioning pumps, and delayed warning systems as contributing factors. The disappearance of the Khlong Khu Bon canal and the lack of serious public warnings were also highlighted as failures.
The Democrat Party criticized the government’s relief measures as unrealistic, pointing out that compensation was insufficient for the damage suffered. They claimed that citizens received only a fraction of the costs needed to repair their homes and vehicles, forcing many to take on debt to cover the shortfall.
The Democrat Party has tasked its legal team with preparing a lawsuit targeting the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), and other agencies. The goal is to secure fair compensation for those affected and to set a legal precedent for future actions against state negligence.
