Bangkok: Clinical Professor Saran Boonbaichaiyapruk recently addressed public concerns for the first time, confirming his resignation as a government employee on January 8, 2022, in order to adhere to medical ethics while caring for patients.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Saran clarified that his involvement with patient care during the period awaiting his royal appointment as Chairman of the NBTC was conducted within the bounds of medical ethics. He emphasized that his actions were not illegal, as they were focused entirely on ensuring patient safety through the proper handover of duties. He stated that he was not a government employee at the time and that his actions were aligned with professional standards.
Dr. Saran explained that he fulfilled pre-existing medical commitments, such as cardiac procedures and patient referrals, to maintain continuity of care and uphold patient confidence. He stated that he stopped practicing medicine once these responsibilities were completed, before the royal decree was issued.
On the legal front, Dr. Saran expressed disagreement with the NBTC Selection Committee's decision regarding his qualifications, noting a lack of clear legal guidelines on the issue. He affirmed his commitment to honesty and integrity throughout his career and insisted that all his actions were consistent with medical ethics and standards. Dr. Saran reiterated that he was not affiliated with any government agency following his resignation.
