Pattaya: A Chinese tourist, under the influence of alcohol, crashed his car into several vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the Pattaya South intersection in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. The incident resulted in damage to multiple vehicles and minor injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pattaya City Police Station received a report about the crash, which involved several cars and motorcycles. The collision occurred at the intersection of Pattaya South and Sukhumvit Road, heading towards Sattahip, in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. At the scene, a green car driven by the intoxicated Chinese tourist showed minor front-end damage, while a black sedan suffered significant rear-end damage. Two motorcycles were also damaged, and several people sustained minor injuries. Volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya rescue foundation were on hand to provide first aid.
Mr. Thawatchai, whose car was hit, explained that his vehicle was stationary at the red light when the tourist's car sped into the back of his car, pushing it into two parked motorcycles in front, leading to further damage and injuries. Following the incident, the Chinese driver and his passenger, both smelling of alcohol, attempted to flee but were prevented by Mr. Thawatchai, who stopped their car and turned off the engine. The tourists then offered money to settle the matter, which Mr. Thawatchai refused. Police arrived shortly afterward and detained the driver.
While the news team documented the scene, a Chinese man accompanying the driver interfered with their work, becoming verbally abusive and starting a fight. Police intervened swiftly to restrain him and transported him to the police station to prevent further disturbance.
Initially, police took the driver to the interrogation room for a blood alcohol test. However, he refused to undergo the test and was subsequently placed in a holding cell to face legal proceedings.
