Drunken Man Sets Own House Ablaze After Family Dispute

Buriram: A 58-year-old man, in a state of intoxication, set his own house on fire following a verbal altercation with his nephew, who had used vulgar language against him. The incident took place in the Nong Bosth Subdistrict of Nang Rong District, Buriram Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the fire department responded promptly to the emergency with five fire trucks. Firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the fire, which had rapidly consumed the single-story wooden house. It took about 30 minutes to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent properties. The police apprehended Mr. Waras, 58, identified by his nephew as the arsonist. Despite his intoxicated state, Mr. Waras appeared unrepentant, giving a thumbs-up and smiling when questioned by authorities.

Mr. Waras recounted that the house, once his, had been given to his sister. After losing his job two years ago and returning home, tensions arose between him and his niece, leading to frequent verbal abuse. On the day of the incident, the niece's harsh words, combined with Mr. Waras's inebriation, drove him to ignite the sofa with gasoline, resulting in the complete destruction of the house.
