Bangkok: The government is now accepting registrations for solar rooftop installers until September 30th, as part of a strategic initiative to promote clean energy and enhance installation standards for 500,000 households across the country. This move is aligned with the clean energy transition policy spearheaded by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Interior Polpeerap Suwannachawi announced the registration opening at a press conference, emphasizing the importance of preparing for a nationwide expansion of solar rooftop installations. The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) are leading this effort, allowing vendors and equipment to register from August 3rd to September 30th, 2026. Registered vendors must comply with specific qualifications, and all equipment must meet international and Thai Industrial Standards to ensure public safety.
The initiative is part of broader government measures under an Emergency Decree, which authorizes the Ministry of Finance to borrow funds to mitigate the energy crisis's impact and facilitate a national energy transition by 2026. The initial phase aims to install solar rooftops in 500,000 households, reducing electricity costs and promoting clean energy usage.
Ensuring public safety is a government priority, with all operators, engineers, and installers required to adhere to established standards. This guarantees that the public receives high-quality, safe, and efficient systems with a lifespan of at least 20 years. Oversight of service providers and equipment standards will be jointly managed by the MEA and PEA, providing uniform safety and quality across the nation.
