Bangkok: The government is set to transform the quality of life for people with disabilities by implementing three urgent measures, including an increase in welfare allowances by 1,000 baht. This initiative aims to promote accessible architecture nationwide to foster an equal society.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongslueykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the government’s commitment to monitor the progress of the national network for people with disabilities. The government is accelerating efforts to implement plans that yield tangible results. The newly unveiled measures involve increasing monthly disability allowances to 1,000 baht for all holders of disability identification cards, promoting barrier-free environments through accessible design, and enhancing “government-friendly services.” This includes the installation of “positive pressure dust-free rooms” for hygiene and “solar rooftop systems” for energy conservation across 22 agencies under the Department of Empowerment and Development of Quality of Life for People with Disabilities.
The Deputy Spokesperson emphasized the government’s strategic shift from being a “provider of assistance” to a “creator of opportunities.” The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has outlined guidelines to build a strong foundation for people with disabilities, ensuring they can fully access their rights and benefits.
In addition, the government is integrating databases to tackle domestic violence and the issue of disabled children dropping out of the education system. By collaborating with the Ministry of Education, efforts are being made to reconnect out-of-school disabled children with educational opportunities and reinforce family institutions. This involves incorporating violence prevention content into the training curriculum for 1,260 volunteers who specialize in disability care under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. These measures are intended to closely monitor and safeguard disabled individuals within their communities.
The overarching goal of the government is to transition from traditional welfare programs to creating opportunities and dignity, empowering people with disabilities to become self-reliant and actively participate in economic and social development.
