Bangkok: "Teng," a representative of individuals who passed the 2025 local government exam, has officially petitioned the government to safeguard the rights of innocent candidates and expedite the process of summoning those on the registration list to report for duty. Today, at the Parliament building, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, along with Mr. Sahasawat Khumkhong, MP from the People's Party, received a letter from these representatives. The letter implored the government to ensure the rights of those who passed the examination fairly are protected and urged the administration to proceed with calling the candidates for duty as per their rankings.
According to Thai News Agency, the letter emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of candidates who completed the examination process transparently and without any involvement in fraudulent activities. It also addressed the ongoing investigation into alleged examination fraud, advocating for a transparent and fair inquiry that focuses on those with evidence of wrongdoing, without unjustly implicating honest candidates.
The letter stressed that delays or indefinite suspensions of the successful candidates' appointment process could severely impact their livelihoods and future plans. It also highlighted the urgent need for personnel in local administrative organizations, which still have vacant positions requiring immediate fulfillment.
The representatives requested that the government take specific actions to ensure fairness, including proceeding with appointing candidates from the original list who have no suspicion of corruption, and conducting investigations on an individual basis to avoid impacting innocent candidates. They also called for a speedy fact-finding process with continuous public updates to maintain confidence in the justice system and public sector management.
The petition clarified that its purpose was not to oppose the investigation but to support lawful punishment for offenders, while also protecting the rights of those who passed the examination based on merit. It emphasized that true justice involves punishing offenders while ensuring the rights of the innocent are upheld.
Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, upon receiving the letter, expressed gratitude towards the complainants and acknowledged the adverse effects of the government's actions, despite their good intentions to address the issue. He assured that he would address the matter in parliament and push for action through various committees, aiming to ensure fairness for all parties involved. Mr. Nattapong highlighted the importance of parliamentary oversight to ensure a balanced investigation and encouraged the government to engage with the parliamentary process for a comprehensive resolution.
