Gunman Shoots Nephew of Former Om Noi Mayor in Targeted Attack

Om noi: In a shocking incident, a gunman on a motorcycle fatally shot the nephew of a former mayor of Om Noi Municipality during a late-night drinking party. The police are actively pursuing leads to capture the suspect responsible for the attack, which is believed to be the result of a conflict with a rival group.

According to Thai News Agency, the attack occurred at 9:00 PM on July 4th. Local authorities, including police from Krathum Baen Police Station, forensic experts, medical personnel from Krathum Baen Hospital, and volunteers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, arrived at the scene located in Om Noi Subdistrict, Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon Province. They discovered the body of 34-year-old Mr. Phakphum, who was found dead in front of an apartment building. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds: three to the back near the right armpit and one to the right elbow, all fired from a revolver.

Witnesses recounted that prior to the attack, Phakphum was socializing with two friends at a marble table outside his residence. The assailants, clad in black jackets and helmets, approached on a motorcycle and shot Phakphum at close range. The friends present during the incident have been detained for questioning to help identify the shooters.

Law enforcement is focusing on tracing the escape route of the two suspects, who are thought to be entangled in a rivalry with Phakphum's group. The Samut Sakhon Provincial Police Commander noted that while initial information has been gathered, the motive remains undetermined pending further investigation and examination of evidence.

Phakphum was the nephew of the late Somsak, a former mayor of Om Noi Municipality. He was the child of Somsak's younger brother and was balancing his work as a general laborer with part-time studies. It was reported that Phakphum had an altercation with rivals the previous week, after which friends had advised him to exercise caution, ultimately leading to this tragic event.
