Heavy Rains in Bowin Lead to Village Wall Collapse and Flooding by Garbage

Bowin: Heavy rain in Bo Win Subdistrict, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, led to the collapse of a wall in Boon Raksa Village, causing a huge pile of garbage to flood the community. Officials from the Bo Win Subdistrict Administrative Organization are working urgently to clear the debris and open drainage channels to address the flooding.

According to Thai News Agency, images captured recycling waste from a nearby factory floating into Boon Raksa Village after the heavy rainfall persisted from early morning until late morning. The village's wall succumbed to the pressure of the water, allowing recycling waste from the factory to inundate the village, obstructing roads and nearly filling the entire area.

A villager attributed the wall's collapse to the adjacent factory's lack of an adequate drainage system to manage the heavy rainfall. Once the wall failed under the water pressure, it allowed the factory's waste to flood the village.

Officials, together with related agencies, have been on-site to clear the debris and open drainage channels to relieve the community's distress. At least one house has been reported damaged, with several households affected by water and styrofoam debris entering their homes.

Residents are calling for government agencies to investigate the waste sorting operation conducted by a foreign company in the area. The company is known for sorting old refrigerators and freezers, leading to the accumulation of foam waste. There are demands for an investigation into whether the waste collection and disposal methods are in compliance with legal standards.
