International Conference Engages ASEAN Youth to Promote Road Safety Policies

Bangkok: Thailand is ready to host an international conference from July 1-5, aiming to harness the power of young people across ASEAN to push road safety policies at the regional level, transforming the voices of youth into regional policy.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongslueykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) and its network partners aim to play a leading role in promoting road safety throughout the region and are ready to host the international conference "ASEAN Youth United for Road Safety 2026" from July 1-5 at the Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. The conference will bring together 60 youth representatives from 12 ASEAN countries and partner nations to find solutions to the problem that is silently claiming the lives of young people every day.

At this conference, youth representatives from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, India, and Japan will participate in hands-on activities, including panel discussions and presentations of best practices from national and international representatives such as the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Youth for Road Safety group. There will also be workshops on youth leadership capacity building and regional networking, as well as presentations of youth ideas and innovations in promoting road safety.

Captain Patradarasmi stated that the most important outcome of this international meeting is the formulation of recommendations from ASEAN youth, which will be submitted to the Senior Officials Meeting and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth to translate the voices of the younger generation into concrete regional policies. It also aims to raise awareness of road safety among ASEAN youth and enhance the effective use of technology and creative media in communication campaigns.
