Tehran: Thousands of Iranians gathered in the streets of Tehran today to mark the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, amid heightened tensions following a brutal crackdown on anti-government protests last month that left thousands dead, marking the most violent unrest since the 1979 revolution.
According to Thai News Agency, following the brutal nationwide crackdown, the European Union declared Iran’s Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization earlier this year, marking a significant symbolic shift in Europe’s policy towards the Iranian leadership.
US President Donald Trump, who deployed an aircraft carrier to the region during the crackdown on protests, had not yet decided on military intervention in December. However, Trump revealed on Tuesday that he is considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, even though the US and Iranian governments are currently preparing to resume negotiations to avoid a new conflict.
