Jealous Husband Arrested in Phuket After 20 Years on the Run

Phuket: CIB police have arrested a 65-year-old man named Saiwai, who has been on the run for nearly 20 years after fatally shooting his wife. He was apprehended in Phuket, bringing an end to a prolonged manhunt by the Central Investigation Bureau.

According to Thai News Agency, the case dates back to 2006 when Saiwai, driven by jealousy, shot his wife during a domestic dispute in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Following the incident, he fled to Bangkok, where he initially stayed with his sister. To finance his escape, he sold the .22 caliber firearm used in the crime.

In an effort to evade capture, Saiwai changed his name and surname and moved between several provinces, including Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and eventually Phuket. During this time, he worked as a welder and severed all ties with his relatives, making it difficult for authorities to track him down. Despite these efforts, he was ultimately apprehended, closing a case that has remained unresolved for two decades.
