Madam Dear Rejoins Budget Committee in Democrat Party Quota

Bangkok: "Madam Dear" has rejoined the Budget Committee under the Democrat Party's quota, demonstrating her readiness to ensure the prudent use of tax money. Ms. Watanya Bunnag, also known as Madam Dear, is a former Member of Parliament and currently a member of the Special Committee tasked with reviewing the 2027 Budget Bill. Prior to the committee's initial meeting to appoint key roles, she expressed confidence in her ability to scrutinize the national budget effectively, drawing on her prior experience as a budget committee member during her tenure as an MP.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Watanya has not identified specific areas of the 2027 budget for scrutiny yet. Her primary focus is to ensure that the public funds are utilized efficiently and beneficially. As a representative of the Democrat Party, she acknowledged the necessity of aligning with the party's policies, which includes understanding any potential directives to examine specific budgets of ministries or departments.

Ms. Watanya also mentioned that her potential return to active politics remains uncertain, as her current commitments involve her private company. Nonetheless, she expressed gratitude to the Democrat Party for allowing her to serve as an outsider within the party, with the opportunity to contribute to the examination of the 2027 budget.

The Democrat Party has secured two positions on the Special Committee reviewing the draft of the 2027 Annual Budget Act. Alongside Ms. Watanya Bunnag, Mr. Amporn Pinasasa, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party and a party-list MP, has also been appointed to the committee.
