Married Couple Detained in Heroin Smuggling Investigation

Bangkok: The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has detained a married couple suspected of sending a package containing drugs and has remanded them to the Criminal Court. The couple, identified as Mr. Athit and Mrs. Thadsaphon, are implicated in a case involving the delivery of packages concealing narcotics.

According to Thai News Agency, the DSI took the couple into custody after the case was classified as a special investigation into a transnational heroin smuggling network. The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) transferred the suspects to DSI investigators at around 11:00 PM on July 3. Police Lieutenant Colonel Woranan Srilam, spokesperson for the DSI, confirmed the transfer and the commencement of the interrogation process.

The DSI investigators began questioning the suspects, completing the interrogation by 2:00 AM, before escorting them to the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road for remand on the morning of July 4. Although the suspects initially confessed to the charges, they denied any connection to drug trafficking networks and refuted involvement in a heroin smuggling case linked to a female flight attendant. Investigators are presently collecting evidence and broadening the investigation to identify other individuals who may be involved.
