MEA Deploys Teams for 24-Hour Support Amid Thunderstorm Warnings

Bangkok: MEA is prepared to handle thunderstorms and has deployed teams to provide 24-hour support. MEA (Metropolitan Electricity Authority) is prepared to handle thunderstorms by deploying teams to monitor the electrical system 24 hours a day in response to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the metropolitan area, as per the Meteorological Department's warning No. 12 (102/2569) for July 2-3, 2026.According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Tatthep Wannawichit, Director of Corporate Communications at MEA, revealed that following the Meteorological Department's warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand, which may cause flooding and strong winds in many areas, MEA, as an expert in electricity distribution systems, has fully integrated its readiness and prepared rapid response units with backup power generators stationed at key locations. This is to ensure that emergency situations can be resolved promptly and the stability of the power system can be maintained.MEA advises everyone to check their homes' el ectrical equipment to ensure it's safe. If you find electrical outlets or switches at a low level that could be submerged, move them to higher ground immediately to prevent electrical leaks that could endanger lives and property. Furthermore, during thunderstorms, avoid being near large billboards, large trees, or unstable structures, and refrain from touching power poles or any metal structures in public areas as there is a risk of electrical leakage.If residents in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan see any damaged or unsafe electrical wires or equipment belonging to MEA, they can report the fault 24 hours a day.
