Bangkok: The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has issued an urgent warning to the public regarding phishing emails that impersonate the agency in an attempt to deceive electricity users. The fraudulent emails claim to offer a refund for electricity bills, urging recipients not to click on any links included in these communications.
According to Thai News Agency, the MEA has clarified that it does not send emails to notify users of refunds or include links for confirming receipt of payments. The agency emphasizes that it has no policy requiring staff to contact the public for personal information or financial transactions through LINE chat or any external links.
The MEA advises the public to only use official MEA channels for checking electricity bills or accessing services, specifically the MEA Smart Life application, available on the App Store and Play Store, and their official website at www.mea.or.th. For any irregularities or suspected scams, the public is encouraged to contact the MEA Call Center at 1130, which is available 24 hours a day. Additionally, the public can follow accurate updates through the MEA’s official social media channels.
