Bangkok: MEA is now accepting applications to sell electricity generated from residential solar rooftops. The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) is inviting residential electricity users in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan who have installed rooftop solar photovoltaic (Solar PV Rooftop) systems to participate in its residential solar power purchase program. This initiative allows users to utilize the electricity generated within their homes and sell any excess to MEA under specified criteria.
According to Thai News Agency, this project aligns with the resolution of the National Energy Policy Committee at its meeting No. 1/2026 held on April 29, 2026, and follows the announcement by the Energy Regulatory Commission. The commission's announcement, dated June 26, 2026, invites bids for the purchase of electricity from rooftop solar power projects for residential users, setting a nationwide electricity purchase target of no more than 500 megawatts.
Interested participants can submit applications to sell electricity from July 1, 2026, onwards through the online application system MyEnergy (MEA Solar OSS) at https://myenergy.mea.or.th/. This platform is part of the MEA Solar One Stop Service, which streamlines all aspects of solar cell operations online, from application submission and status tracking to grid connection. Eligible participants must be Type 1 residential electricity users and own their electricity meters. The proposed sales capacity must not exceed 5 kilowatts per meter, with a purchase price of 2.20 baht per unit for a 10-year period. Commercial operation (COD) is expected to commence within 2027.
