Rayong: Rain made the roads slippery, causing a military vehicle to lose control, overturn, and collide with a closed container, resulting in numerous injuries. Heavy rain caused slippery roads, resulting in a military vehicle returning from a border mission in Chanthaburi province to its camp in Chonburi province. The vehicle overturned and subsequently collided with a closed van on Sukhumvit Road, inbound towards Klaeng district, causing numerous injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage captured a military vehicle swerving back and forth on the road before losing control and overturning on the median. Police from Klaeng Police Station, Rayong Province, rushed to the scene after receiving a report of a serious multiple-vehicle accident on Sukhumvit Road, inbound towards Klaeng District, in Thung Khwai Kin Subdistrict, amidst continuous rain.
At the scene, a six-wheeled military truck was found overturned on its side on the median strip. Military equipment and supplies were scattered across the road, and 21 soldiers were injured. According to a soldier who was in the first vehicle, they were returning from a mission at the border in Chanthaburi province and heading back to their camp in Chonburi province. They were driving in a convoy of three vehicles. It was raining continuously along the way. He was asleep when the accident occurred and woke up to find the vehicle swerving and then immediately overturning.
An unexpected incident occurred a second time when the second military vehicle, following behind, skidded on the slippery road and crashed into a parked six-wheeled truck. The impact caused two soldiers to be thrown from the vehicle, one of whom sustained serious injuries. In total, 20 soldiers from the two vehicles suffered minor injuries and one was seriously injured, out of a total of 21 soldiers from the three vehicles that were traveling back to Chonburi.
Mr. Maen, 33, an eyewitness whose house is located near the temple close to the scene of the accident, recounted that he had parked his car in front of his house when he suddenly heard a loud crash. He rushed out to see a military vehicle overturned, and shortly afterward, another military vehicle veered off course and crashed into it. He witnessed two soldiers falling from the overturned vehicle right before his eyes.
Mr. Chan, 46, the driver of the enclosed van, recounted the collision, stating that he was driving from Chanthaburi to work in Rayong when he reached the accident site. A pickup truck was parked on the side of the road, slowing down to turn into a military camp. He believes a military vehicle following behind at high speed braked suddenly, causing his van to swerve and collide with the pickup truck. The impact then caused his van to hit his own enclosed van before sliding into a ditch beside the road.
