Motorcycle Taxi Driver Arrested for Murder and Theft of Elderly Woman


Nakhon Si Thammarat: A motorcycle taxi driver has been arrested for killing and robbing an 89-year-old woman, stuffing her body into a fertilizer sack and dumping it in a rice field for four days.



According to Thai News Agency, the incident involves Ms. Nunil, aged 89, who was last seen being taken by Mr. Charoen, also known as Tia, aged 55, a motorcycle taxi driver. He picked her up from a village in Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, to withdraw money at a department store. Ms. Nunil subsequently disappeared for four days. Her body was later discovered in a rice field on Thet Phra Kiat Road, where Mr. Tia had allegedly murdered her and concealed her remains in a fertilizer sack. He is accused of stealing her gold jewelry and cash, with a total value exceeding 250,000 baht.



This morning, Pol. Col. Kittichai Krainara, Superintendent of Muang Police Station, convened a meeting with relevant departments to expedite the search for Mr. Charoen. The latest update reveals that the police have apprehended Mr. Charoen in the Koh Samui area, Surat Thani Province. Officers have taken him into custody and plan to bring him in for questioning at Muang Police Station later today. The motorcycle taxi stand where Mr. Charoen worked was notably deserted.



Meanwhile, relatives of Ms. Nunil gathered at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, awaiting the release of her body amidst an atmosphere of grief. The incident has sparked widespread criticism, highlighting the vulnerability of the elderly who possess valuables, underscoring the potential threat posed by individuals who may appear to be trusted acquaintances.
